“Well, hardly ever!”

I remember seeing Pirates of the Penzance years ago.  I remember enjoying that song and it has stuck with me all this time.  That part of the chorus seemed apropos for this article.  Now that Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee, many are saying “Trump is better than Hillary.  You have to vote Trump to keep her out.”  I say, no.  Before Trump supporters get their toupees in a knot or get redder then a fake tan, hear me out.

No, never…just because you’re a bitter Cruz supporter

Yes, as all men of the society know, I am a Cruz supporter.  But I say #nevertrump not because I’m bitter, but because he’s Trump (I’ll flush that out next).  If Cruz lost to just about anyone else, I would vote that candidate.  I would happily push the button for Rubio, Paul, Santorum, Jindal and Huckabee.  I would have been fine with Bush or Fiorina.  I could have lived with Perry or Carson (reluctantly).

But out of the seventeen GOP candidates, I had my axis of evil.  There was no way I could vote for Kasich, sure he had a great pro-life record, but he was horrible on religious liberty and gay marriage.  Then there was Christie.  While I enjoyed him in the debates and he had some good points, I again question his marriage and pro-life stances.  That leaves me with the king of the axis…Trump.

The case for not Trump

I’ll keep this brief and simple since most these points have been brought up multiple times on the site, but usually just in comments.  I just like having most of them laid out in one article.

Abortion –Life, at all stages, is the most central issue for any moral Christian conservative in any election.   For most of his life, Trump has been pro-abortion, even advocating for partial birth abortion.   It was not until recently that he became pro-life.  But during his campaign, his stance has flipped flopped (three times in several hours at one point) and he has praised Planned Parenthood for their work outside of abortion (I’m not sure if he is talking about contraception or selling of babies’ body parts, because that’s the only two other functions they do).   Trump has also called for the GOP to soften their national platform on abortion.

Bathrooms – Trump has stated that a person should use the bathroom they identify with.  For Trump, it is ok for a male to use the same bathrooms as our wives and daughters.  This Breitbart.com article shows why this is so dangerous. On top of that, those advocating Gay rights have not stopped at the marriage issue.  They want more and more.  Caving in on the bathroom issue only empowers them further.  We need a leader who will defend our Christian morals, not someone who will compromise them.

He’s a Liar – Trump is great at contradicting himself.  He’s for the Iraq war, and then he was not.  He likes Megyn Kelly, and then he cannot stand her.  He thinks mothers who have abortions should be punished, and then he does not.

Ben Carson, when endorsing Trump, said there are two sides to him, the private side and the persona he puts on in public.  The Trump campaign itself has said that this is a show and he will be more “presidential” in the future.  Even the other day, he announced that he is going to change his tax plan and his stance on minimum wage.  I understand that a presidential candidate may not always get their agenda filled once when president, but Trump is already changing his agenda to something he thinks is more electable.   Proof right there, he does not stand for issues, only what can get him elected.  Trump is more than a flip flopper, he’s a liar.  He says whatever he thinks will get him an advantage.   We are unable to take him at his word, because his word constantly changes.

Liberalism – He’s a liberal.  He was a democrat before.  He was buddy-buddy with the Clintons.  He has a history of giving to democrats. He says things like his radical pro-abortion sister, who is a judge, would be a good Supreme Court nominee.  He now wants to raise minimum wage and tax the wealthy.  His moral leanings are to the left.  He’s becoming more and more left as everything progresses.  It will not be long before he is for universal healthcare, gay marriage and common core.  He’s a liberal.

Personality – We are supposed to believe that Trump is a Christian.  If he is, then I really do not care for the face of the 21st century Christianity.  Trump has told his supporters at his rallies to punch protestors.   He said Megyn Kelly had blood “coming out of her whatever.”  On a live debate in front of millions of viewers he personally insulted Carly Fiorina.  “Look at that face.  Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”

He personally attacked the looks of Ted Cruz’s wife on a Good Friday tweet (should not a Christian man be doing more important things on Good Friday then insulting the appearance of a woman?), as well as pushed a tabloid headline that Cruz had multiple affairs, never mind the fact that the women mention in the article, as well as Cruz, denied the accusations and no major news network picked it up either.  He also accused Cruz’s father of helping to kill JFK, based on a photo in the same tabloid that pictures a young man similar to Cruz’s father standing next to Lee Harvey Oswald.  And then there is his crude language and innuendos.  I could go on, but you get the drift.  Dr. Paul Kengor explains it well here.

Not Voting for Trump is a Vote for Hillary

No my friends, that is not the case.   The truth is those who have already supported Trump are the ones who voted for Hillary.  Actually they voted for the Democrate nominee.  On Real Clear Politics, Trump loses to Hillary on average by 6.5 %.  To Sanders, he loses 13.4%.

In fact, he’s losing to Hillary both in Georgia and Utah.  Two of the reddest states around are now swing states.  Yes, the writing is on the wall and it always has been.  But Trump supporters are either:

  • ignorant of the importance of this election, listening to only media news bites
  • gave up way too early in the primaries, and reluctantly sided with Trump
  • too stupid (harsh, but true) to see through his lies or
  • are just Trumpkins and don’t give a darn about anything else other than seeing their hero elected

Yes, conservatives who choose to vote #neverTrump in November are not putting Hillary in office.  It is Trump supporters who put the nation in another four years of socialist-democrat control by putting forth a nominee who has very little chance of winning in November.

…Hardly Ever

So what do I plan to do?  Wait.   A lot can happen between now and November.  There is a good chance the GOP splits at the convention.  Many GOP leaders already refuse to support Trump and will not attend the convention.  Others,  some reluctantly, support Trump.  Still others want more proof Trump is a conservative.   A train wreck is coming.

And the Democrats are no better.  If not for those Super Delegates, Hillary and Sanders are neck and neck.  A contested convention on their side is a possibility.  I could see Sanders and his supporters splitting that party; they were 700 delegates down before the first primary ever happened.  Is it possible we have two third party runs in November?  Maybe.

But as of now I cannot support Trump.  Maybe I can later, but I need reassurance from Trump.  Right now I feel the only difference between Trump and Hillary is that Trump is a better liar.  I’m no cheap date.  I’m not swayed by talking points and one liners.  I’m not a GOP guy.  I’m a Christian with deep conservative values.   If Trump wants my vote, he needs to earn it.  Who is his VP?  Who is in his cabinet?  Will he reveal his Supreme Court pick?   The questions go on.  Thus I wait.
